#Scaling and root planing trial
In addition, one non-randomized, controlled clinical trial met the inclusion criteria. Twelve parallel group RCTs 12– 23 regarding the clinical effectiveness of SRP for periodontal health that were not included in the SRs were identified for this report. Ten RCTs were included in one SR, eight of which included relevant comparisons for this review 8 and a total of 72 RCTs were included in the other SR 9 however, 11 RCTs were identified that included comparisons that are relevant to this report.

8 was an update of a previous review from 2005 11 unlike the initial review, the 2014 update did not evaluate study designs other than RCTs. 10 Both SRs searched multiple electronic databases from 2004 to April 2014 8 or 1960 to July 2014 9 for RCTs and supplemented this search by reviewing the bibliographies of identified reviews.
